Ivan Vasilyevich Perschin

Ivan Vasilevich Perschin ( Russian Иван Васильевич Першин ; born January 25, 1980 in Arkhangelsk ) is a former judoka who competed for Russia . He was European champion in 2006, third in the world championship in 2007 and fifth in the Olympic Games in 2008.

Athletic career

The 1.82 m tall Ivan Perschin fought until 2004 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 81 kilograms. In 1999 he was runner-up in the U20 European Championships. In 2002 he took third place at the World Student Championships. In 2005 he switched to middleweight, the weight class up to 90 kilograms. In November 2005 he won the Russian championships in this weight class. In 2006 he won the Super World Cup in Moscow. At the 2006 European Championships in Tampere , he defeated the British Winston Gordon in the quarterfinals , the Dutchman Mark Huizinga in the semifinals and the Spaniard David Alarza in the final . In 2007 he lost to the Ukrainian Walentyn Hrekow in his first fight at the European Championships in Belgrade , in the round of hope he fought his way up to seventh place. At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro , Perschin lost in the quarter-finals against the Italian Roberto Meloni . With two wins in the Hope Round, he reached the battle for bronze, which he won against Mark Huizinga. In 2008 at the Olympic Games in Beijing , he won the quarter-finals against the Belarusian Andrej Kasussjonak . In the semifinals he was defeated by the Georgian Irakli Zirekidze and the battle for a bronze medal he lost to the Swiss Sergei Aschwanden . In 2009 Perschin finished seventh again at the European Championships in Tbilisi after losing to Andrej Kasussjonak in the quarter-finals.
