Florian Wanner

Florian Wanner (born February 2, 1978 in Wolfratshausen ) is a former German judoka .

Florian Wanner's home club is currently TSV Munich Großhadern . At the same time, he is also on the mat for his club in the Bundesliga. Wanner fought for Germany in the national team in the 81 kg class. Florian Wanner had his biggest international success with the World Cup - title in 2003 in Osaka kg to 81st

Wanner was able to qualify for the Olympic Games twice in his judo career . The first Olympic participation in 2000 in Sydney ended with a 9th place. After Florian Wanner qualified for the 2004 Olympic Judo competitions in Athens with World Cup gold in 2003 , he was able to achieve seventh place with three wins and two defeats.

Wanner was already the junior European champion in 1997. During his time in the German national team, he won medals at German and international championships. In 2003 in Düsseldorf, Florian Wanner was third in the European Championship up to 81 kg.

After the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he finished his judo career with the 3rd Dan and was retired from the German national team with Raffaella Imbriani (third place in 2003; Second in 2001 ) and Julia Matijass (third in 2004). He justified his decision by advancing his economics degree. In 2015 he was awarded the 5th Dan for his extraordinary services to the sport of judo, such as his social commitment to judoka who had an accident or fell ill.

  • September 12, 2003: World Champion in Osaka up to 81 kg against Sergei Aschwanden from Switzerland after 73 seconds by an Ippon with Kosoto-Gari
  • October 26, 2003: German champion in Leipzig up to 81 kg
  • August 17, 2004: Seventh at the Olympic Games in Athens up to 81 kg
