Takanori Nagase ( Japanese 永 瀬 貴 規 , Nagase Takanori ; born October 14, 1993 in Nagasaki ) is a Japanese judoka . In 2015 he was world champion in light middleweight, the weight class up to 81 kilograms.

Athletic career

The 1.81 m tall Nagase won the 2012 Asian U20 Championships. At the Universiade 2013 in Kazan, he won both the light middleweight division and with the Japanese team in the team classification. In 2014 he finished fifth at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk after defeats to the Georgian Awtandil Tschrikishvili and the French Loïc Pietri , the Japanese men's team won the team world championship. A year later at the World Championships in Astana he defeated Awtandil Tschrikishvili in the semifinals and Loïc Pietri in the final. The Japanese men's team defended their title from the previous year. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Nagase lost in the quarterfinals to Sergiu Toma , who started for the United Arab Emirates . In the hope round he defeated the Canadian Antoine Valois-Fortier and in the fight for the bronze medal Awtandil Tschrikishvili. At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest , Nagase was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Uzbek Davlat Bobonov .
