At the XXVIII. 2004 Olympic Games in Athens two found water polo tournaments held. The venue was the Olympic Water Sports Center in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex .

Men

The first placed in both preliminary round groups, each with six teams, qualified directly for the semifinals, while the second and third placed played cross-wise for a place in the semifinals. The losers of this semi-final qualification made fifth place among themselves. The fourth to sixth places in both preliminary round groups played for places 7 to 12.
