Tamás Varga (water polo player)

Tamás Varga (born July 14, 1975 in Szolnok ) is a Hungarian water polo player .

The 2.01 m tall center defender made his debut for the Hungarian national team in 1995 and became vice European champion. In 2001 he was third at the European Championship with the Hungarian team. In 2003 he won the title at the World Cup and in 2004 he was on the team of the Olympic Champion in Athens . In the years that followed, Varga was no longer part of the squad, but was nominated again for the 2008 Olympic Games . The Hungarians won the final against the team from the United States.

Tamás Varga began his career at the club in his hometown Szolnoki VSI and then moved to Vasas Budapest . After playing years in Catania and Basel, he returned to Vasas. He has been active for Szeged-Beton since 2007 .
