Barbara Harel

Barbara Harel (born May 5, 1977 in Nantes ) is a former French judoka . She was European Champion in 2000 and 2006 and won bronze medals at the European Championships in 2001 and 2008.

Athletic career

The 1.60 m tall Barbara Harel competed in the lightweight category, up to 56 kilograms, from 1998 to 57 kilograms. In 1995 Harel was Junior European Champion. In 1999 she won her first French championship. At the European Championships in Wroclaw in 2000 , she defeated the Italian Cinzia Cavazzuti in the quarter -finals, the Dutch Jessica Gal in the semifinals and the Swede Pernilla Andersson in the final . Four months later at the Olympic Games in Sydney she won her first fight against Lauri Pace from Malta after 58 seconds, but then lost in the round of 16 against the Cuban Driulis González after 56 seconds. In her first round of hope she defeated the Belgian Marisabel Lomba after 1:28 minutes and then lost to Cinzia Cavazzuti in a fight over four minutes. Ultimately, Harel took seventh place.

At the French championships in 2001 Harel lost the final against Magali Baton . Four months later, the 2001 European Championships took place in Paris . Harel lost in the semifinals to the Dutchwoman Deborah Gravenstijn , the battle for bronze she won against Pernilla Andersson. In 2002 she won the French championships for the second time. At the European Championships in 2002 and 2003 , she finished fifth. The 2003 World Championships took place in Osaka in late summer 2003 . Harel was defeated in the quarterfinals by the Germans Yvonne Bönisch , after two victories in the round of hope she was defeated by Deborah Gravenstijn in the battle for bronze. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Harel lost to the Cuban Yurisleidy Lupetey after 11 seconds in their opening fight . With victories over the Swiss Lena Göldi and the Russian Natalija Jucharewa , Harel reached the battle for bronze, which she lost to Deborah Gravenstijn after 3:38 minutes.

In 2006 Harel lost in the final of the French Championships Annabelle Euranie . At the European Championships in Tampere, Harel defeated the Swede Maria Lindberg in the quarter -finals, Sabrina Filzmoser from Austria in the semi-finals and Kifayət Qasımova from Azerbaijan in the final . The following year she was eliminated in her second fight at the European Championships in Belgrade against Natalija Jucharewa. at the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, she lost to the Hungarian Bernadett Baczkó in the quarterfinals and Yvonne Bönisch in the first fight of the round of hope. In 2008 at the European Championships in Lisbon, she lost to the Spanish Isabel Fernández in the semi-finals , while Harel won the battle for bronze against the Serbian Radmila Perišić . Four months later, at the Olympic Games in Beijing, Harel lost to the Italian Giulia Quintavalle in the quarterfinals . In the hope round she defeated Bernadett Baczkó and Yvonne Bönisch, she lost the battle for bronze after 2:09 minutes against the Chinese Xu Yan . In 2009 Barbara Harel reached the final of the Mediterranean Games in Pescara and won silver behind the Greek Ioulietta Boukouvala .
