Takashi Ono (Judoka)

Takashi Ono ( Japanese 小野 卓志 Ono Takashi ; born June 25, 1980 ) is a former Japanese judoka . He was third in the 2005 and 2011 World Cup.

Athletic career

The 1.81 m tall Takashi Ono fought until 2008 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 81 kilograms. In 1998 he was third in the Junior World Championships. In 2000 he took second place at the world championships for students. In 2001 Ono won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Ulaanbaatar, two years later he was able to repeat this success in Jeju. In 2005 Ono won the Japanese championships for the first time. A month later he won the title at the Asian Championships in Tashkent with a final victory over South Korean Kim Soo-kyung . At the World Championships in Cairo he was defeated in his second fight by the Ukrainian Roman Hontjuk . With three wins in the round of hope, he reached the battle for bronze, which he won against the Frenchman Anthony Rodriguez . In 2006 Ono won a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Doha . In 2007 a bronze medal followed at the Asian Championships in Kuwait. In 2008 Ono won the Japanese Championships and won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Doha. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , he was eliminated in his first fight against the Brazilian Tiago Camilo .

After the Olympic Games, Ono switched to middleweight, the weight class up to 90 kilograms. At the first Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo in December 2008, he won the final in his new weight class against South Korean Lee Kyu-won . In early 2009 he also reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris , where he was defeated by the Frenchman Matthieu Dafreville . In May 2009 he won the Grand Slam tournament in Moscow with a final victory over the Belarusian Andrej Kasussjonak . In December he won the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo against his compatriot Daiki Nishiyama . In early 2010 he won the tournament in Paris in front of the Uzbek Dilshod Choriev . In April 2010 Ono also won the Japanese championships ahead of Daiki Nishiyama. In July, Ono defeated Nishiyama in the final of the Moscow Grand Slam tournament. At the World Championships in Tokyo Ono was defeated by the Greek Ilias Iliadis in the round of 16 . In November 2010 the 2010 Asian Games took place in Guangzhou , where Ono won the final against Dilshod Choriev. In June 2011, Ono won his sixth Grand Slam tournament in Rio de Janeiro with a final victory over Cuban Asley González . At the World Championships in Paris , he defeated the Ukrainian Walentyn Hrekow in the quarterfinals . After his semi-final defeat by Daiki Nishiyama, Ono won the battle for a bronze medal against Lee Kyu-won.

At the end of 2012 Ono switched to light heavyweight, the weight class up to 100 kilograms. In 2013 he won the Japanese championships. At the 2013 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Ono lost to Elxan Məmmədov from Azerbaijan in the quarterfinals . After a win over the French Cyrille Maret and a defeat against the Czech Lukáš Krpálek , Ono finished fifth.
