Cyrille Maret

Cyrille Maret (born August 11, 1987 in Dijon ) is a French judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 2016.

Athletic career

In 2003 Maret was U17 European Champion and fifth in the U20 European Championships. The 1.89 m tall athlete mostly competed in the light heavyweight division in the following years. In 2004 he was seventh at the U20 World Championships, and in 2005 he won bronze at the U20 European Championships. In 2006 he won the U20 world championships in light heavyweight, in heavyweight his fellow countryman Teddy Riner , who was two years younger, won .

In 2009 Maret finished second in the Mediterranean Games behind the Egyptian Ramadan Darwish . Just a few days later, he won the title at the Universiade . In 2010, Maret won the French championships for the first time. At the 2011 European Judo Championships , he finished fifth. At the French championships at the end of 2011 he lost to Thierry Fabre , who then represented France at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . At the European Judo Championships in 2013, Maret lost to the Dutchman Henk Grol in the semifinals , and he won the battle for bronze against the Israeli Or Sasson . In 2019, the European Championships were held as part of the European Games in Minsk, Maret won a bronze medal.
