Makoto Takimoto

Makoto Takimoto ( Japanese 瀧 本 誠 , Takimoto Makoto ; born December 8, 1974 in Iwai , Ibaraki ) is a former Japanese judoka . He was Olympic champion in 2000 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 81 kilograms.

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Makoto Takimoto won the 1995 Asian Championships in New Delhi. At the 1997 World Championships, he lost to the Austrian Patrick Reiter in the round of 16 and then retired in the round of hope. In 2000 Takimoto won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Osaka.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 Takimoto defeated the Argentinian Gaston García in the round of 16 after 28 seconds, all other fights by Takimoto went over the full duration of the fight. In the quarterfinals he defeated the Uruguayan Alvaro Paseyro and in the semifinals the French Djamel Bouras . The final against the South Korean Cho In-chul won Takimoto with two Yuko ratings.

In 2002 he won the Kodokan Cup in Tokyo again. For the 2004 Olympic Games, he could no longer qualify.
