Vladimir Mikhailovich Newsorow ( Russian Владимир Михайлович Невзоров * 5. October 1952 in Maikop , Krasnodar Region , RSFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Soviet- Russian Sambo fighters and judoka , who at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal Olympic champion in the weight category to 70 kg.
Athletic career
Judo
Vladimir Newsorov won a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics , in the final he defeated the Japanese Kōji Kuramoto . A year earlier Newsorow was world champion at the Judo World Championships in Vienna, defeating Koji Kuramoto in the semifinals and his compatriot Valeri Dwoinikow in the final . In 1975 and 1977 Newsorow was European champion, in 1973, 1975 and 1977 he won the European title with the Soviet team.
In 1976 and 1979 Newsorov became Soviet champions.
Sambo
Newsorow was in 1971 in Moscow and 1972 in Krasnoyarsk Soviet master in sambo , a Russian-Soviet martial art. He also became European champion in 1972.
Life after exercise
After the end of his career, Newsorov worked as a sambo and judo trainer. From 1980 to 1989 he was the coach of the Soviet national judo team and from 1989 to 1991 he was a judo trainer in France. From 1999 to 2001 he was the head coach of the Russian national judo team and also looked after the team during the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia . Newsorov is also a member of the Presidium of the Judo Federation of Russia.
