Schota Dmitrovich Chabarelі (born December 26, 1958 in Dzlevisjvari , Inner Kartlien , Georgian SSR , Russian Шота Дмитрович Хабарелі , Georgian შოთა დიმიტრის ძე ხაბარელი ) is a former Soviet judoka . He competed in the light middleweight division (up to 78 kg), and in 1980 he was Olympic champion in this weight class.

Chabareli reached the final at the European Championships in 1979 and received the silver medal behind Harald Heinke from the GDR. Also in 1979 he won the European team championship with the Soviet team. At the 1980 Olympic tournament in Moscow , he defeated Heinke in the round of 16. By victories over the Bulgarian Georgi Petrow and the Romanian Mircea Frățică he reached the final, where he won against the Cuban Juan Ferrer with a Yuko rating. At the European team championships in 1980, the French won ahead of the Soviet team.

In 1981 Chabareli won the bronze medal at the European Championships . The following year he reached the final at the European Championships in 1982 and received the silver medal behind Mircea Frățică. At the European team championships in 1982 France won ahead of the Soviet Union. 1983 Chabareli won again the bronze medal at the European Championships ; after losing to the Finn Seppo Myllylä in the semi- finals, he won the battle for bronze against the West German Frank Wieneke . In the same year, Chabareli won his only World Cup medal at the World Championships in Moscow . He won bronze against Frenchman Jean-Michel Berthet after losing to Japanese Nobutoshi Hikage in the semifinals . In 1985, Chabareli was once again European team champion.

After his judo career, Chabareli worked as a judo trainer and looked after the Georgian national team for many years.
