Mircea Frățică (born July 14, 1957 in Pogoanele ) is a former Romanian judoka . He competed in the light middleweight (up to 78 kg), in 1982 he was European champion in this weight class.

Athletic career

The 1.75 m tall Mircea Frățică won the bronze medal at the 1980 European Championships in Vienna . At the 1980 Olympic tournament in Moscow , he reached the semifinals with three wins, which was won by the later Olympic champion Schota Chabareli from the Soviet Union. In the battle for bronze, Frățică lost to Harald Heinke from the GDR, the Romanian ultimately finished fifth. At the European Championships in 1982 he reached the final with four wins and won this against Schota Chabareli. The following year he was at the European Championships in 1983 already after two victories in the semifinals against the Briton Neil Adams , after the semifinal defeat he was defeated in the battle for bronze against Andrzej Sadej from Poland and finished fifth. At the World Championships in the same year he lost the quarterfinals against Neil Adams, the battle for bronze won Frățică against the Yugoslav Filip Leščak .

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Mircea Frățică reached the semifinals with four wins, where he met the later Olympic champion, the German Frank Wieneke . The Romanian won the battle for bronze against the Japanese Hiromitsu Takano . In 1985 Frățică finished fifth at the European Championships . After that, his sporting career ended.
