Pogoanele is a city in Buzau County in Romania .

location

Pogoanele is located in a rather sparsely populated area of ​​the Wallachian Plain on the edge of the Bărăgan steppe. The district capital Buzau is located about 30 km northwest.

history

In 1907 Pogoanele was affected by the peasant uprising in Romania . In 1944 there was fighting between German and Romanian troops in the immediate vicinity of the town. In 1989 Pogoanele was declared a city. The main branches of business are agriculture and food processing.

population

In 1930 Pogoanele had about 7,000 inhabitants. In the 2002 census, 7795 people were registered in the city of Pogoanele, including about 5700 in the city proper, the rest in the incorporated town of Căldărăşti . 7711 were Romanians and 182 were Roma .

traffic

Pogoanele is on the railway line from Urziceni to Făurei . There are currently (2009) around four connections a day in both directions; some trains run continuously to Bucharest or Galați . The national road 2C runs through the city from Slobozia to Buzău.
