Hans Kissel

Hans Kissel (born February 19, 1897 in Mannheim , † November 30, 1975 in Aglasterhausen ) was a German major general ; most recently head of the Volkssturm management staff and author.

Life

Kissel occurred during the First World War than at September 23, 1915 cadet in the seventh Baden Infantry Regiment. 142 a. After his basic training, he came to the regiment on the Western Front on February 19, 1916 and was deployed as a group , platoon and company commander as well as an adjutant brigade and promoted to lieutenant on January 5, 1917 . Kissel took part in the battles on the Somme , Aisne and before Verdun . After the end of the war he retired from active military service on April 30, 1919.

On January 1, 1935, Kissel was accepted into the Reichswehr as a captain with RDA from January 1, 1933 and initially assigned to the 269 supplementary battalion in Heilbronn . On July 15, 1936, he was transferred to the 34th Infantry Regiment as a company commander and on April 1, 1938, he was promoted to major . With the beginning of the Second World War and the invasion of Poland , Kissel became the commander of the III. Battalion in the 109th Infantry Regiment. From November 30, 1940, he worked in the same position in Infantry Regiment 228 and at the same time was entrusted with the command of Infantry Regiment 229. In this position promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 1, 1941 , he had a serious accident during the fighting on the Eastern Front . During his stay in the hospital , Kissel received the German Cross in Gold on June 18, 1942 . He was also promoted to colonel on January 1, 1943 .

After his recovery, Kissel returned to the front on March 15, 1943 as leader of a combat group and was then commander of the 672nd Infantry Regiment. From September 1, 1943 to September 24, 1944, Kissel commanded the 683 grenadier regiment and was on March 17, 1944 with the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross awarded. Subsequently, he was in command of the 178 grenadier regiment until he was seriously wounded. On November 10, 1944, Kissel was transferred to the Führerreserve and sent to Berlin as chief of the Volkssturm's command staff. In this position he was promoted to major general on January 30, 1945. On May 8, 1945, Kissel was taken prisoner of war , from which he was released on June 26, 1947.
