Pătârlagele is a city in Buzău County in Romania .
location
Pătârlagele lies in the valley of the river Buzău in the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians . The district capital Buzau is located about 40 km southeast.
history
Pătârlagele was probably founded in the 12th century. The first written evidence comes from the years 1524 to 1527. The origin of the name is unclear; One theory says that there was a camp of knights of the Teutonic Order from Burzenland here in the 13th century . Accordingly, the current place name should be composed of the terms "Peter" and "Lager".
The place was at the crossroads of several roads leading into the surrounding mountains and developed into a local trading center. In 2004 Pătârlagele was declared a city.
population
In the 2002 census, 8,290 inhabitants were registered in Pătârlagele, including 2,651 in the city proper and the rest in the 14 incorporated towns. 8251 were Romanians , 27 Roma and 9 Hungarians .

Pătârlagele is on the 1908 built railway line from Buzău to Nehoiu . The national road 10 runs through the city from Brașov to Buzău. There are regular buses from Pătârlagele to Buzău.
