Nehoiu is a city in Buzau County in Romania .
location
Nehoiu is located in the valley of the river Buzau in the southern part of the Eastern Carpathians , between the mountains part Siriu in the south and Podu Calului in the north. The district capital Buzau is located about 50 km southeast.
history
Nehoiu was first mentioned in a document in 1549. The place was on an important pass road across the Carpathian Mountains (from Brașov to Brăila ). The residents mainly dealt with logging in the surrounding mountains. In the 20th century, Nehoiu developed into a local center; In 1989 the place was declared a city. The economic upheaval after the 1989 revolution resulted in the loss of many jobs and the emigration of many residents. In 2001 the city was declared a “disadvantaged zone” by the Romanian parliament. Main branches of business are still forestry and wood processing. Tourism is developing.

In the 2002 census, 11,631 inhabitants were registered in Nehoiu, including 6188 in the city proper and 5443 in the nine incorporated towns. 11,613 were Romanians and 10 Hungarians .
traffic
Nehoiu is the end point of a 1908 built railway line from Buzău. The national road 10 runs through the city from Brașov to Buzău. There are also bus connections from Nehoiu to Buzău.
