Local transport in Kaiserslautern
The transport in Kaiserslautern is the SWK traffic AG , the Saar-Pfalz-Bus GmbH and Vlexx , the Rhine-Neckar S-Bahn and DB Regio guaranteed. The latter three are subsidiaries of Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) . The entire local public transport (ÖPNV) is in the tariff area of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN).
history
In 1899, the city, which had a population of around 50,000 at the time, increased demands to set up an electric tram in Kaiserslautern . The corresponding order was issued in 1913, after which construction work began on the Kaiserslautern tram , the main line of which led from today's Pfaffplatz to the cemetery. Due to the war, it took until December 18, 1916, until the proper operation was started after the wagons had been pulled by horse and carts. Due to the effects of the global economic crisis and the unwillingness of the city to take on the maintenance costs, tram operations were stopped in 1935. It was replaced by an urban bus company, which was to remain the only urban local means of transport until 1949.
In 1949 the Kaiserslautern trolleybus between Vogelweh in the west and the 23 barracks in the east of the city was opened and later extended. At the end of 1985 the company was closed. Since then, bus lines have once again formed the urban local transport network.

Planning
As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate cycle , the following local rail passenger transport lines are to run through Kaiserslautern Hauptbahnhof:
Line name | Route | Planned clock frequency |
---|---|---|
RE 3 | Frankfurt (Main) - Mainz - Bad Kreuznach - Bad Munster a Stein - Saarbrücken / Kaiserslautern | Hourly |
In addition, there are lines S1 and S2 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar and the regional train connections, but there will be no noteworthy changes. In addition, the reactivation of the Zellertalbahn has been discussed for several years , which forms a connection between the Alsenztalbahn and the Rheinhessenbahn and thus connects Kaiserslautern with Worms .
