The Hauptbahnhof Saarlouis is the only station in the urban area of the Saar district town of Saarlouis . It is located on the Saar route between Trier and Saarbrücken in the area of the Roden district , about 1 km north of the city center.

history

BR 01 118 in the direction of Dillingen
ET 25 entrance from the direction of Ensdorf

The first train station on the territory of today's Saarlouis was opened in Fraulautern on December 16, 1858 during the construction of the Saar line. Saarlouis itself was cut off from rail traffic, which hindered economic development and threw the city back behind the neighboring communities of Dillingen and Bous . This initially led to the construction of trams and small railways in the Saarlouis district . In addition, the city campaigned for the construction of a new train station and communicated the present-day district of Roden in order to build a train station on its territory. The opening of the station Saarlouis at its present location took place on 19 December 1912. From the mid-1960s, the station was connected to the electrical network of the German Federal Railroad after being in the main station has been renamed. Interregios also stopped in Saarlouis until 2002 , since then the station has only been served by regional trains, as long-distance trains no longer run on the Saar line.

The station has three platform tracks and three freight tracks that do not have a platform. Track 1 is 314 m long and 76 cm high, tracks 2 and 3 are each 300 m long and 55 cm high. Barrier-free access is possible on all platforms. Tracks 2 and 3 can be reached via a pedestrian tunnel with stairs. In conjunction with two elevators, this tunnel enables disabled people to access these platforms. There is a travel center in the train station, in front of the train station there are parking spaces, bicycle parking spaces, taxi parking spaces and toilets. As part of a renovation program for train stations in Saarland, which was completed in 2012, the reception building was also renewed. In 1967 a track plan push button interlocking was put into operation.

business

The station is now only served by regional trains. It belongs to the Saarland Transport Association and is located in Wabe 452. On December 14, 2014, the largest timetable change since the introduction of the Rhineland-Palatinate cycle in 1994 came into force.
