The Bad Kreuznach station is a railway station in the town of Bad Kreuznach . It is a wedge station and belongs to station category 3. Here the Nahe Valley Railway and the railway line to Gau Algesheim separate . The station went into operation on May 18, 1905. It is located southeast of the city center and is in the tariff area of ​​the Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund (RNN).

predecessor

The first station, "Kreuznach city", in Bad Kreuznach in 1858 at the Nahe Valley Railway opened left the vicinity, what is now the former freight depot. In the meantime there was a connection to the Kreuznacher Kleinbahnen . On June 1, 1864, a second train station was opened in Bad Kreuznach with the name Kreuznach "Bad" in the south of the city, on the right of the Nahe, in order to better develop the southern part of the city with the spa area. The city station was, however, in an unfavorable location, as there was hardly any room for expansion for the city, but this seemed necessary in order to cope with the increasing number of spa guests.

Today's plant

The current station was created through military planning. With the construction and opening of the railway line to Gau-Algesheim on May 14, 1902, today's station was put into operation. Due to its location, both parts of the city are equally connected to the rail network. The station received a new signal box in 1904 , particularly because of the four-track line to Bad Münster am Stein . The other two stations were closed to passenger traffic because they were only about 1 km away from the new station, the Kreuznach "Bad" station was still in 1905, the "Kreuznach Stadt" station on March 1, 1910. At the same time, it was changed to "Kreuznach Güterbahnhof "renamed. The new reception building was built between 1905 and 1908. Ernst Plattner from Mannheim made the designs for the glazing . The station was originally supposed to be called "Kreuznach Gabelung". However, this met with criticism, as it could have a negative effect on spa guests. After efforts by the Kreuznacher Kurverein, the new station was finally called Bad Kreuznach . With the opening of the new train station, urban development shifted to the right near side in the northeast of the city.

On April 1, 1926, the Kreuznach locomotive station was closed. From 1965 to 1979 the Munzinger Express from Zweibrücken to Mainz stopped at the station . Long-distance trains (Frankfurt – Paris or Dortmund – Pirmasens) ran through Bad Kreuznach until 1990.

The station is a wedge station with five tracks on three platforms. Trains in the direction of Kaiserslautern and Bingen run on the Nahe Valley Railway on tracks 1 and 2 . Trains to Mainz / Frankfurt am Main or Saarbrücken run on tracks 3 to 5 . In contrast to most other wedge stations, the station building is not in the Keilspitze, but is parallel to the older Nahe Valley Railway on the west side of house track 1; north of the reception building, however, there is no longer a direct connection between the tracks. The middle platform between tracks 2 and 3 is significantly larger than the two outer platforms due to the diverging tracks. The station also has access from the north from Burgenlandstrasse and from the south from Bosenheimer Strasse.

The station building is equipped with a bakery, a newspaper shop and a travel center for Deutsche Bahn . The platforms are provided with seating and vending machines. From summer 2011 to September 2014 the station was completely renovated after a previous dispute between the city and Deutsche Bahn. The platforms were raised and all platforms were barrier-free and a new platform roof was built. Furthermore, the station was given an additional access on the south side to Bosenheimer Straße. On January 24, 2014, a new McDonald’s branch opened in the premises of the former “Bacchus” restaurant in the train station building. Since 2017 there has also been a branch of the Ditsch company in the building of the train station. Bicycle racks are located at the entrance from Bosenheimer Straße and south of the station building.

The station forecourt is called Europaplatz. This is where the bus station is located , from which the Bad Kreuznacher districts and surrounding towns are served by the Bad Kreuznacher Stadtwerke and the ORN . There is also a taxi rank, a savings bank branch and public toilets here. There is an underground car park under the station forecourt.

The station is used by around 5000 travelers every day. In December 2014 there was a change from DB Regio to the private company Vlexx GmbH . Regional trains run on the Nahe Valley Railway in the direction of Bingen and in the direction of Kaiserslautern from Bad Münster on the Alsenz Valley Railway , which run every hour. A regional train runs every hour on the Mainz – Türkismühle route. A regional express runs every hour to Mainz or Saarbrücken. There is a direct connection to Frankfurt am Main every 2 hours.
