Regional Express at Ottweiler station

The Ottweiler (Saar) Station is situated in the Saarland town Ottweiler at the 1860 opened Nahe Valley Railway . Since 1937 the Ottweiler – Schwarzerden (Ostertalbahn) railway has been branching off in Ottweiler . a. Museum railways operate with special tourist traffic.

Reception building

In 1859 a half-timbered building was erected as a temporary station building. Due to financial difficulties of the Rhein-Nahe-Bahn, the building remained in operation until 1877. The station building, built in 1877, is one of the oldest in Saarland and is a listed building. The two-storey, plastered, eaves-standing building with a slate-covered gable roof is located to the west of the track system. The arcades are made in a round arch style .

The German railway gave the station building on 1995th From 1996 to 2001 the building was run by a junior company and was considered a showpiece for Deutsche Bahn. From 2001 to 2003 the Entrada company took over the ticket business and continued the ticket business as a job creation measure . However, Deutsche Bahn terminated the contract in March 2003 due to billing problems and all employees were laid off overnight. In 2004 ASB stepped in and continued the business as an employment model.

In 2012 the station was sold to the city of Ottweiler. The future use is currently still controversial.

meaning

From 1934 the Ostertalbahn was set up, which was put into operation in 1937 to Niederkirchen and in 1938 to Schwarzerden . The city of Ottweiler became the southern end point of this route and thus an important traffic junction. In order to comply with this, the station building was slightly rebuilt and an island platform set up, which is connected to the main track by an underpass. Passenger transport (public transport) on the route was discontinued in 1980.

The station is still in operation today. It is visited by around 1,300 rail travelers every day on 100 train connections on weekdays. There are connections every half hour to Saarbrücken and Sankt Wendel , every hour to Neubrücke , Idar-Oberstein and Mainz and every two hours to Frankfurt am Main . There is also a museum railway to Schwarzerden , which is run by the Ostertalbahn (AkO) eV working group. After the platform track 3 was dismantled by DB Netz in 1992, the district of St. Wendel, as the railway infrastructure company for the Ostertalbahn, built a new platform on track 4 in 2004.
