Ryūji Sonoda

Ryūji Sonoda ( Japanese 園田 隆 二 , Sonoda Ryūji ; born September 16, 1973 ) is a former Japanese judoka . In 1993 he was world champion in super light weight, the weight class up to 60 kilograms.

Sonoda won the 1992 Junior World Championships in Buenos Aires. At the 1993 World Championships in Hamilton he defeated the French Philippe Pradayrol in the quarter -finals, the German Richard Trautmann in the semifinals and Nazim Hüseynov from Azerbaijan in the final . 1994 Sonoda reached the final at the Asian Games , but then lost to the South Korean Kim Hyuk . At the end of 1994 Sonoda won the Jigoro Kano Cup . At the 1995 World Championships in Chiba, he defeated the Israeli Guy Fogel in the quarter-finals and lost to the Russian Nikolai Oschegin in the semifinals . In the battle for bronze he defeated Nazim Hüseynov. At the end of 1995, Sonoda won the Japanese championships. 1997 Ryūji Sonoda won again bronze at the Asian Championships.
