Luchum Tschchwimiani

Luchum Tschchwimiani (born May 3, 1993 ) is a Georgian judoka . In 2019 he was European and World Champion.

Athletic career

Luchum Tschchwimiani was third in the U17 European Championships in 2009 in the weight class up to 55 kilograms. Since 2012 he has been fighting in the super lightweight up to 60 kilograms, the lightest weight class for adults. In 2013 he was fifth in the European Junior Championships. In the same year he won his first Georgian championship title. In 2015 he took second place behind Amiran Papinashvili at the Georgian championships . In 2016 he won ahead of Papinashvili. At the European Championships 2017 in Warsaw he was defeated in the semifinals to the Russian Robert Mschwidobadze , he lost the battle for bronze to the Spaniard Francisco Garrigós . At the end of 2017 he won his third Georgian championship title.

At the European Championships in Tel Aviv in 2018, Luchum Tschchwimiani lost to the Russian Beslan Mudranow in his opening fight . Five months later at the World Championships in Baku he was defeated in his second fight by the Japanese Ryuju Nagayama . In 2019 the European Championships took place as part of the European Games 2019 in Minsk. Tschchwimiani defeated the French Walide Khyar in the semifinals and Francisco Garrigos in the final. Two months later at the World Championships in Tokyo , he defeated Garrigos in his second fight. Four fights later he defeated Ryuu Nagayama in the semifinals, the final he won against the Uzbek Sharafuddin Lutfillaev .
