Thierry Rey (born June 1, 1959 in Veurne , Belgium ) is a former French judoka .

The 1.72 m tall Thierry Rey won his first French national championship title in 1978 in the super light weight category up to 60 kg. At the end of the year he won the European team championship with the French team. 1979 Rey finished with the team in second place at the European team championship. At the Judo World Championships in 1979 , which were held in Paris, Thierry Rey won his first international individual title. After a bronze medal at the European Championships in May 1980, Rey won the gold medal in Moscow at the 1980 Olympic Games .

At the end of 1980 Thierry Rey switched from super-light to half-light , the class up to 65 kg. In this weight class Rey won from 1981 to 1983, so that he came with his three wins in the class below to six championship titles in a row. At the European Championships in 1981 he won the silver medal behind the Romanian Constantin Niculae . In 1982 Torsten Reissmann from the GDR won the European Championships ahead of Rey. In October 1982 Rey won with the French team for the second time after 1978 at the European Team Championship. 1983 Rey won after two second places for the first time at the European championships, as with his world championship win in 1979, he succeeded in victory in Paris. Rey played his last international tournament in May 1984.
