Torsten Reissmann

Torsten Reissmann (born February 23, 1956 in Potsdam , † October 8, 2009 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a German judoka .

Torsten Reissmann was a four-time GDR judo champion in the light weight division. Between 1975 and 1982 he won four European championship titles in the category up to 65 kg, making him one of the most successful judoka of the German Judo Association . In 1978 he was part of the DJV selection team, which went down in European Championship history as a miracle team at the European Championships in Helsinki .

Reissmann grew up with his three brothers and a sister in Potsdam. After completing secondary school, he learned to be a car mechanic . Under judo trainer Erhard Buchholz , he received his training as a top judoka in the university sports community at the Potsdam University of Education from 1968. As a competitive athlete of the ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt of the National People's Army , he served with the rank of lieutenant. His judo trainers in the sports club were Hubert Sturm and Herbert Niemann .

Later he was a primary school teacher until he fell ill with neuroborreliosis in 2001 . In the long course of the disease that caused death, he suffered severely from progressive motor disabilities and paralysis.
