The Stuttgart Oratorio Choir , the oldest concert choir in the state capital with a focus on "sacred choral music", was founded in Stuttgart in 1847 as the "Association for Classical Church Music" by Alois Schmidt and Immanuel Faißt. Under Immanuel Faißt, who later became the collegiate cantor of the Stuttgart collegiate church, he developed into the leading choir in southwest Germany. Since 1937 it has been called the Stuttgart Oratorio Choir.

Today the Stuttgart Oratorio Choir prepares three programs a year with large choral symphonic works. He engages well-known soloists for his concerts and is accompanied by renowned orchestras such as the Stuttgart Concertino (members of the State Orchestra) and the Stuttgart Philharmonic. The concerts take place in the Beethovensaal of the Liederhalle, in the Stuttgart collegiate church and in the St. Eberhard Cathedral.

Today the choir comprises around 60 active singers. The development of the programs in the weekly rehearsals also includes dealing with the musical and historical context.

The musical spectrum ranges from early baroque music to the moderate modern of the 20th century; These include important works of church music - oratorio, passion, mass, requiem, Stabat Mater, Te Deum, etc. - as well as secular literature such as "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff. Known and unknown was and is on the program, including premieres and premieres.

Regular concert tours have also taken the Stuttgart Oratorio Choir abroad over the past two decades. He has performed in important churches and concert halls in Krakow, Prague, Budapest, Brno, Sopron, Eisenstadt, Imperia and Cardiff, mostly in collaboration with recognized soloists and musicians on site.

The artistic director is Enrico Trummer, who took over the direction of the Stuttgart oratorio choir in 1995.

The Stuttgart Oratorio Choir is a member of the Verband Deutscher KonzertChöre eV / VDKC.
