Krzysztof Urbański

Krzysztof Urbański (born October 17, 1982 in Pabianice ) is a Polish conductor .

Life

Urbański graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in 2007 . In the same year he became deputy conductor of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and won first prize at the International Conducting Competition in Prague . In 2010 Urbański took up his position as chief conductor of the Trondheim Symfoniorkester Trondheim , Norway. He has also been Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra since the 2011/2012 season .

Urbański has led various national orchestras in Poland, including the Sinfonia Varsovia and the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice . He also worked with the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg , where he conducted Krzysztof Penderecki's Threnody for the victims of Hiroshima in autumn 2010 . His debut in the United States , he also gave in 2010 at the Grant Park Festival in Chicago in which he, among others, the Concerto for Orchestra by Witold Lutoslawski conducted. In October 2010 he conducted the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in Frankfurt .

Engagements followed a. with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra , the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich , the Munich Philharmonic , the Gothenburg Symphony , the Bamberg Symphony and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra , with the Sinfonia Varsovia, Vienna Symphony Orchestra , the London Philharmonia Orchestra , the London Symphony Orchestra , the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra . In May 2014 he made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker , having turned down an invitation in 2012.

The Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University appointed Urbański as associate professor in orchestral conducting for the 2011/2012 winter semester. In 2015 he was awarded the Leonard Bernstein Award .
