Jarle Norman Bernhoft-Sjødin (born June 27, 1976 ) is a Norwegian musician and songwriter. He only uses his family name Bernhoft as a stage name .

Life

Jarle Bernhoft grew up in the municipality of Nittedal a few kilometers north of the capital Oslo . His musical career began in the rock'n'roll band "Span". In this combo he has already appeared around the world. He then began his far more successful solo project Bernhoft with his debut album Ceramik City Chronicles , which he released on September 1, 2008.

His breakthrough came with his second album Solidarity Breaks . He reached number 1 on the charts in his native Norway. He published it in Germany in July 2011. On the extensive tour that followed (including supporting Joe Cocker ) he was a guest on the American talk show Ellen .

His trademark are his live performances, in which he loops himself several times with his Boss RC 50 loop station . He himself confirmed in numerous interviews that the creation of his principle of the one-man-band was a compromise in order to be able to continue touring and thus avoid the high costs for the other guest musicians. He still plays on stage with 12 guest musicians at a higher fee. His primary loops include beatboxing , tapping on his acoustic guitar, backing vocals, and bass lines .

He is married to Lisa Bernhoft-Sjødin, with whom he has two sons.
