Ruben Markussen (* 1995 ), better known as Ruben , is a Norwegian singer and songwriter .

Life

Markussen grew up with his family in the northern Norwegian town of Bjarkøy in Harstad municipality . He studied music production at Høgskolen i Innlandet and received a music education in Los Angeles for six months. In 2015 he released his first song entitled About To Collide . In January 2017, Markussen, who claims to be homosexual, published the song Go For Love , which was composed after the Orlando attack on June 12, 2016 .

In October 2017 the single Walls followed , which was able to place in both the Norwegian and the Swedish charts . The song was nominated for the Spellemann Prize 2018 in the "Song of the Year" category. Markussen also received a nomination in the “Breakthrough of the Year” category. It was also nominated in 2018 in the “Newcomer of the Year” category at the awards ceremony for the NRK P3 radio station , the P3 Gull .

In 2018 he himself described his music as "dark pop". His songs are influenced by the anxiety, depression and mental illnesses, which he says he has been experiencing since he was 13 years old. He wrote the song Lay By Me about his father, who died in 2018. In May 2020 it received the award in the category song of the year at the Spellemannprisen for the music year 2019. He was also nominated in the category pop artist for his work Melancholic . He released this EP in May 2019.

In April 2020, the music producer Alan Walker released the song Heading Home , with Markussen as a singer.
