Odd Nordstoga

Odd Nordstoga (born December 10, 1972 in Vinje , Norway) is a Norwegian musician , singer and composer from Vinje ( Telemark ). In 2004 he had great success with his first solo album "Luring". The album, a mixture of pop music and traditional folk music and with lyrics on Nynorsk , sold more than 150,000 copies in Norway. In 2008 the album Pilegrim was released .

Life

Odd Nordstoga is married to Hilde Marit Kvile and has two children; the family is based in Lambertseter near Oslo . He comes from a particularly musical family. Both parents, Ellen and Olav Nordstoga , are well-known singers in folk music circles. Together with Odds bigger brother Aasmund Nordstoga they released the record Livet er godt (Life is good) with texts by Aasmund Olavsson Vinje . His father is a speaker and narrator; the brother a well-known TV presenter, radio comedian and actor.

Odd Nordstoga's first instrument was the accordion , which he got when he was eight. Since then he has been singing and playing various instruments.

He made his debut at the teacher training college in Bergen in 1997 with the group “Something Odd” and released a self-financed record of the same name. Nordstoga self-ironically called his music "Urban bygderock" ( bygd means something like "village", "parish"). In 1998 the record "Solreven" was published by BMG Norway.

This album contained two smaller radio hits, but sold itself very poorly, which is why BMG took the album off the market. In 2000 the name of the group was changed to "Nordstoga" ; she brought out another album at Grappa, which is also simply called "Nordstoga" . Again, the success was limited to two respectable, smaller radio hits. Nevertheless, he received the prestigious Edvard prizes for his song Bie på deg ; A little later the group broke up.

Blåmann Blåmann

Between 2001 and 2003 Odd Nordstoga focused on traditional Telemark folk music. With his other group, «Blåmann Blåmann», he gathered old friends from Vinje around him, such as the guitarist Asgaut H. Bakken , the flute player Silje Hegg and Lars Underdal , a master of the Hardanger fiddle . This formation released a new album in 2001, which was titled after the band name.

Spellemann prizes

In 2002 he teamed up with folk musician Øyonn Groven Myhren and together they released the album “Nivelkinn”, which was based on lyrics by the poet Aslaug Vaa . This collaboration brought Nordstoga two smaller radio hits again. The album was also awarded the renowned Spellemann Prize in 2003 for the best folk music album of the year.

It was not until 2003 that the general public became aware of Odd Nordstoga when he wrote and played the title song "Eg & Edith" ("Ich & Edith") for the Édith Piaf performance of actress and singer Herborg Kråkevik . The performances themselves and the album met with very little interest, but the title track became a widely played radio hit.

Luring

In 2004 Nordstoga signed a contract with Universal and recorded the album "Luring" , which sold more than 150,000 times in Norway and topped the bestseller list for 14 weeks.

The main song that was heard and hummed the most was about a wailing pig: Kveldssong for deg og meg ( evening song for you and me ). The text (by the well-known Norwegian author Ragnar Hovland) was taken from the children's book "Elefantmusikken" (1985), which contains poems with irrepressible and subtle humor.

Other songs such as Texas , Lause ting, Hallo hallo and Farvel til deg appeared as single releases and were also played many times on the radio.

tour

The tour following the sales success (the so-called "Luringturen" ) played Nordstoga together with his Daz Nordstogaz Allstars ; over 60,000 listeners attended the concerts.

Work for television

The title song Svingensongen was released on the sampler "Tidenes beste barneplate 2". The music for the series “UHU!” Also comes from his pen.
