Axioma Ethica Odini (lat., The ethical principle of Odin ') is the eleventh album of Enslaved . It was released by Indie Recordings / Nuclear Blast in 2010 .

history

After a tour with Opeth in 2009, the self-produced album was recorded at Duper Studios, Earshot Studios and Peersonal Sound. It was mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios . Grutle Kjellson suggested the title Ethica Odini , which is the title of the Latin translation of Hávamál , while Ivar Bjørnson wanted to name the album Axioma ; Ultimately, they decided that combining both titles would work well. The band assumed Axiomae to be the correct plural , but chose the Axioma form because it sounds good.

Music genre

Compared to its predecessors Ruun and Vertebrae, the album is “harder, more aggressive […] the production is different, clearer, more modern, more 'metallic'” and with a little more distortion. The band only used tube amplifiers “to 'warm up' the sound a little. The whole thing should be very audible, so that the instruments are separated and the album still sounds as a unit ”. With Axioma is an Ambient -Stück that was used by the band at festivals as consistent.

reception

The album reached number 11 in Norway . The album was named album of the month by Metal Hammer magazine . Robert Müller awarded 7 out of 7 possible points. He wrote: “I've never had the top grade mentally after two songs. […] The eclectic mix that fuels Enslaved's sound has never sounded so organic, never before has it produced so many hits. ”The album was also the magazine's album of the year. His colleague Christof Leim, on the other hand, praised “the atmosphere, the wealth of ideas and every passage that sounds like Devin Townsend, but the extreme parts are annoying. The balancing act is therefore too far for my taste. ”He awarded 4 out of 7 points. The other employees gave 5 or 6 points each. Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic awarded 3.5 out of 5. The album was awarded the Norwegian Spellemann Prize.
