Music style and lyrics

The music has been described as "epic", all pieces except Heimdallr are longer than 10 minutes. The keyboard is an important part of the music, which still has raw black metal influences. Singing passages are rather rare. The album ends with the instrumental Norvegr , which mixes electrical and acoustic instrumentation.

In the accompanying texts, Enslaved explains that the original lyrics were written in Icelandic, with the exception of Heimdallr , the fourth piece in old Norwegian , which originally appeared on the 1992 demo recording of Yggdrasill . The band thanks Sigvalda Thorlakson, "who kindly shared his knowledge and wisdom with us" and translated and edited the lyrics for the band. English translations of the texts are also included. In Heimdallr is an old Norwegian legend. In the booklet, the band asks their audience to join their “March to Eternal Glory”, bleach out the “weak light” and raise the flames of Midgard .

reception

Robert Müller from the German Metal Hammer described Enslaved's "contribution to the gandiosen [sic!] Split - LP with Emperor " as "something like the secret highlight: Nordic mythical chants over threatening Black Metal, mixed with avant-garde explosions reminiscent of Pan.Thy.Monium " ; In comparison, her debut album is "a little disappointing, because where the long songs used to come up with many interesting facets, there is now a bit too often monotonous frenzy". Milan from The Metal Observer described Vikingligr Veldi as "great", the album is a "timeless classic" of Viking Metal and a "testament for those who think that keyboards have no place in Black Metal".
