Music genre

fp from Bloodchamber.de describes Enslaved's early recordings as mangy, according to Seker from the webzine Global Domination , Hordane's Land is Enslaved's first release with a “decent production”.

The first piece, Slaget i skogen bortenfor , was described by Antonio Espinosa as a “ symphonic rampage” and begins with a chorus that “dissolves into an ocean of blastbeats and decay”.

Allfǫðr Oðinn hints at the roots of Enslaved's later progressive style.

Balfǫr contains deep piano passages and creates an “atmosphere that is dark, eerie, epic and beautiful at the same time”.

reception

Robert Müller of the German Metal Hammer described Enslaved's "contribution to the gandiosen [sic!] Split LP with Emperor" as "something like the secret highlight: Nordic mythical chants over threatening Black Metal , mixed with avant-garde explosives reminiscent of Pan.Thy.Monium " ; In comparison, her debut album is "a little disappointing, because where the long songs used to come up with many interesting facets, there is now a bit too often monotonous frenzy". Antonio Espinosa summed up his review for Sputnikmusic with the words “A true masterpiece of the now legendary Norwegian black metal scene”. In Slaget i skogen bortenfor to associations the best aspects of black metal, the aggression, the symphonic approaches, the unintelligible screams and the beauty behind the dark exterior, and all elements blended perfectly; every detail is thought out to add to the atmosphere, and even the spoken passages fit perfectly into the "madness". Allfǫðr Oðinn's composition is complex and effective, especially given the young age of Ivar Bjørnson. The highlight, however, is Balfǫr , who set the standard for all future Black Metal and surpassed all previous Black Metal. For Seker from the webzine Global Domination , Hordanes Land , Vikingligr Veldi and Frost are Enslaved's best publications. WTC Productions described the EP as "a classic that everyone who loves Black Metal should own or at least know".
