Hans Josef Paus (born December 12, 1937 in Dudweiler ; † April 3, 2011 ) was a German physicist .

Life

Hans Paus studied physics at the Saarland University and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn until 1964 . After completing his diploma, he switched to the 2nd Physics Institute at the University of Stuttgart as a research assistant in September 1964 . He received his doctorate there with a thesis on the structure determination of optically active centers in alkali halide crystals. His doctoral supervisor, Heinz Pick , gave him teaching assignments from 1969 onwards, and Paus was soon giving the large experimental lectures for engineering, biology and chemistry students. He reorganized the advanced internship when chairs for natural, engineering and sports sciences moved to the Vaihingen campus .

Paus completed his habilitation in 1980 and received the license to teach physics in the same year. In 1987 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Stuttgart. In 2003 he retired. He died on April 3, 2011 at the age of 73 as a result of a bicycle accident.

Initially manuscripts emerged from his lectures, and in 1994 his textbook “Physics in Experiments and Examples” was published (currently in its 3rd edition).

Paus was scientifically active in crystal growing, also within the framework of the German Society for Crystal Growth and Crystal Growing (DGKK).
