Hunting High and Low is the debut album by the Norwegian pop-rock band a-ha , released in May 1985 and named after the song of the same name .
history
The recordings took place at Eel Pie Studios, Twickenham, London , United Kingdom . More than ten million copies of this album have been sold so far, and it remained the band's most successful album. A-ha was the first Norwegian band to be nominated for the 1986 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist .
After its release, the album was honored with platinum in Germany and the United States , and the Hunting High and Low tour followed from 1986 to 1987 .
In 2010 a remastered deluxe version of the album was released, which in addition to the 10 regular tracks contains 29 demo versions, remixes and unreleased songs.
In 2015, for the 30th anniversary of the album, the Super Deluxe 30th Anniversary Edition was released with four audio CDs and a DVD in book form. Compared to the deluxe version from 2010, it contains two previously unreleased songs (Nå Blåser Det På Jorden, The Sphinx (a mixture of the songs Cold River and Train of Thought )) and two new demo versions as well as remixes and all videos (including the three take on me versions).
criticism
The album received 4 out of 5 stars at Allmusic and was selected as an “AMG Album Pick”. Tim DiGravina wrote that the album contained a handful of songs that nearly matched the manic energy and emotional power of his big hit - Take On Me .
On the occasion of the album's 30th anniversary, the music magazine Rolling Stone wrote that a-ha could justifiably be proud of this “early work full of breathtaking songs about adolescence”.
