Stay on These Roads is the third studio album by the Norwegian pop rock band a-ha , released on May 3, 1988.

history

The album was with The Living Daylights the title song of the James Bond film The Living Daylights contained, that in the UK reached five of the charts place it in the United States but missed. Various electronic instruments were used for the recordings, including the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer and Roland equipment . Among other things, a synclavier was also used.

criticism

While a-ha remained successful internationally with over 4 million copies of the album sold, Stay on These Roads only reached number 148 on the Billboard 200 in the USA . As with its predecessor, it reached number four in the German charts and number two in Great Britain . At Allmusic the album received 2 out of 5 stars. William Ruhlmann wrote that a-ha hadn't shown any real development since the first album, it just offered more of the same and that less "distinguishable" than before. The Musikexpress Magazin awarded three out of six stars in 1988.

When the album was re-released as a deluxe version in 2015, Rolling Stone gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars, describing it as an album by highly ambitious musicians who had to submit to role ideas, which in the end produced a fairly average record. Are highlighted in The Blood That Moves The Body , This Alone Is Love (with the longest guitar solo Waaktaar) and as best piece of the panel, There's Never A Forever Thing . Also, The Living Daylights gets a lot of credit, but the single and not Album Version "Instead of furious vorpreschenden bony guitar, bass and percussion settings with occasional orchestral blows here comes a synthesizer overkill; the rhythm only expresses one against Wall."
