Ephemera is a women's pop band from Bergen , Norway .

It consists of Inger Lise Størksen (* October 13, 1977 ), Christine Sandtorv (* 1976 in Laksevåg ) and Jannicke Larsen (* September 19, 1976 ) and has been playing together since 1996.

The band became known in Germany with their single hit Girls keep secrets (in the strangest ways) . This song was named Song of the Year at the Bergen Festival in 2003 and was used by Elle Girl magazine to launch its market launch advertising campaign.
For the two albums Ballons and Champagne and Air they each won the Spellemann Prize , which corresponds to the Grammy in Norway .

The music style of Ephemera - located between country , folk and pop - can be described as acoustic guitar pop. Typical of ephemera are the clear, mutually complementary singing voices of the three band members as well as the unusual instruments used in addition to the guitars , e.g. B. cello , banjo or glockenspiel .

Texts

Ephemera's texts are about small everyday stories. So z. B. In On the surface, a failed (failed) relationship is described, which should end in a win-win situation for both sides . So it says in the chorus:

"On the surface, as harmless as can be
you and me
but underneath, there's a story never told
about you and me "

Reviews

Ephemera's musical style is often compared in the criticism with the Bangles or Wonderwall and described as nice , sometimes also as kitschy .

"Air", even the most cynical criticism has to admit, is the nicest album of the last time. "Nice" does not mean acceptable and unimportant here, but airy, free of tension or aggressiveness and absolutely lovely. "

"The music of Ephemera on" Monolove "sounds warm-heartedly beautiful and therefore fits into the cold days of the year when you need optimistic music in view of the white-gray depressive landscapes."

- Musicone.de

“The three of them flirt with the listener, but at the crucial moment they turn out to be the listener's best friend. The title track "Monolove" dries the tears of a failed relationship and in the chorus raises the crucial questions: "How can love be so painful? / But when it works the way it should be so good? / How can love be full of beauty ? / But when it's over, done and dead be so bad? " Of course, ephemera do not have a satisfactory answer either, but they do have a record that is suitable for both lovesick and cuddly couples. "
