Chetag Nikolajewitsch Zabolow ( Russian Хетаг Николаевич Цаболов ; born November 17, 1991 ) is a Russian wrestler . In 2014 he became world champion in free style in the weight class up to 70 kg body weight.

Career

Chetag Zabolow comes from North Ossetia-Alania . He started wrestling as a teenager in 2001, focusing on free style. He initially belonged to the Spartak Wladikawkas sports club and later moved to the Moscow Army Sports Club . He was or is trained by Tschermen Marsajew and Islam Kalajew.

He celebrated his first major successes in 2011 when he became the Russian junior lightweight champion and a few months later in Bucharest also won the junior world lightweight championship. In the final he defeated Ibrahim Nasiriaffrachali from Iran.

In his first senior years in 2012 and 2013, Chetag Zabolow could not place in the medal ranks at the Russian championships. But it was used in some important international tournaments. So he occupied z. B. at the Golden Grand Prix 2012 in Krasnoyarsk in the lightweight behind Alan Gogajew , Russia, 2nd place. He also achieved the same place at the Ramzan Kadyrow Cup in Grozny / Russia behind Akhmed Gadschimagomedow from Russia.

In March 2014, together with Ramasan Shamsudinov, he represented the Russian colors at the World Cup in Los Angeles, a team competition in lightweight. The Russian team came in second behind Iran and ahead of the United States. He was u. a. used in the final against Iran, but lost there against Mustafa Hosseinchani on points (0: 7). In June 2014 Chetik Zabolow became the first Russian champion in the non-Olympic weight class up to 70 kg body weight. He referred Israil Kassumow, Magomedrasul Gasimagomedow and Arslan Arslanow to the next places. In September 2014 he was then used in this weight class at the World Championships in Tashkent, where he won the world title with victories over Andreas Triantafyllidis, Greece, Yoan Blanco, Ecuador, Cleopas Ncube, Canada, Ali Schabanau, Belarus and Yakup Gör , Turkey .

In 2015 and 2016, Chetag Zabolow was unable to place in the front field at the events that are decisive for the international championships, the "Iwan Yarigin" Grand Prix and the Russian championships. He was therefore unable to compete in any international championship in these two years, nor in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, he won the 2015 Military World Games in Mungyeong and 2016 the Military World Championship in Skopje in the weight class up to 74 kg. Certainly only a small consolation for him, for the missed participation in the Olympic Games.

In 2017 he finished 5th at the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk in the weight class up to 74 kg. He was therefore out of the question for a start at the European Championship. In June 2017, however, he won the Russian championship in the same weight class. This gave him the starting place at the World Championships in Paris. In Paris he was in excellent shape and defeated Connor James Evans, Australia, Hanoch Rachamin, Israel, Jabrail Hasanow , Azerbaijan and Söner Demirtas , Turkey. He was in the final against the 2012 Olympic champion and four-time world champion Jordan Burroughs from the United States. He delivered a great fight to Burroughs, but was ultimately defeated 6: 9 points. He became vice world champion in 2017.

In January 2018, Chetag Zabolow finally won the "Iwan-Yarigin" Grand Prix ahead of Zaurbek Sidakov and Kachaber Chubeschti, both Russia and Dauletmurat Orasgijow, Turkmenistan and qualified for the European Championship in Kaspiisk. There he was unlucky, because in the weight class up to 74 kg he first won over Wasil Michailow from Ukraine, but suffered a shoulder defeat in his next fight against Frank Chamizo Marquez , Italy. Since Chamizo did not reach the final, he was eliminated early and only came in 9th place. Shortly afterwards he was again military world champion at the military world championship in Moscow in the class up to 79 kg.

At the Russian championship in August 2018, Chetag Zabolow was beaten in the weight class up to 74 kg by the up-and-coming Zaurbek Sidakow. Sidakov was then used at the World Cup in Budapest.
