Hubert Wiggering

Hubert Wiggering (* 1956 ) is a German environmental scientist ; from 1993 to 2001 he was Secretary General of the Advisory Council for Environmental Issues (SRU). From 2001 to 2014 he was director of the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research , the former Center for Agricultural Landscape and Land Use Research (ZALF). He is currently professor of geoecology / land sciences at the University of Potsdam.

Life

Wiggering studied geology and palaeontology at the University of Münster from 1975 to 1981 . He then did his doctorate at the University of Essen on the recultivation of post-mining landscapes . As a postdoctoral fellow, he went to California State University in Los Angeles in 1984 , where he dealt with the formation of the earliest atmosphere on earth. He then returned to Essen, where he completed his habilitation in 1992, also with a paper on the formation of the earth's atmosphere. In 1993 Wiggering was appointed Secretary General of the Advisory Council on Environmental Issues, an advisory body to the federal government. From 2001 to 2014 he was Scientific Director of the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in Müncheberg. Since 2001 he has been Professor of Geoecology at the University of Potsdam . His research focuses on environmental assessment, land use issues and landscape development. Wiggering is a member of several specialist committees, including being the spokesman and board member of the German Agricultural Research Alliance (DAFA).
