Magomedmurad Gadżijew , actually Magomedmurad Saidpaschajewitsch Gadschijew ( Russian Магомед Саидпашаевич Гаджиев * 15 February 1988 in Gurbuki , Dagestan ASSR , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former (until 2012) Russian , since 2014 Polish wrestler . He was junior world champion in 2008, silver medalist at the 2015 European Games , 2016 European champion , 2010, 2017 and 2018 vice European champion and 2017 vice world champion in free style, each in the lightweight .

Career

Magomedmurad Gadschijew began wrestling as a teenager in 2000. He belongs to the Gaji Machacheva sports club and is trained by Abdulkadir Magomedow and Magomed Dibirow. The 1.65 meter tall athlete, who competes in the lightweight class up to 66 kg body weight, is a student and lives in the Volgograd region . He only wrestles in free style.

As the Russian junior champion in 2008, he started in 2008 for the first time at an international championship, the Junior World Championship in Istanbul . He won the world title there with five victories and defeated u. a. Sandor Toeszer from Hungary and Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan . He did not take part in other international junior championships.

In 2010 he won the Golden Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk in the lightweight ahead of Adam Batirow and Gasan Magomedow, both from Russia. He also took 3rd place in the Russian championship behind Alan Gogajew and Asamat Bulatow. This is Magomedmurad Gadschijew's only medal win so far at a Russian senior championship. In 2010 he was used by the Russian Wrestling Association at the European Championships in Baku. There he won the lightweight over Juri Poljak from Israel , Ismail Emin Redzhep from Bulgaria and Otar Tuschischwili from Georgia . In the final battle he lost to Jabrail Hasanow. He became vice European champion.

In 2011 and 2012 Magomedmurad Gadschijew could not place in the front field at the Russian championships. It was therefore not used in any other international championships during these years. But he still achieved good results at various international tournaments.

He then applied for Polish citizenship in 2013 and was able to start in 2014 under the name Gadżijew for Poland. In the weight class up to 70 kg he became Polish champion in 2015, won the silver medal at the 2015 European Games and became European champion in 2016 . In April 2016 he won the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics in the weight class up to 64 kg . Since traces of meldonium were discovered in his doping test during this competition , his result was annulled and he was banned from the Olympics. After an appointment by the Polish Wrestling Association, this decision was reversed in July 2016 and he reached 16th place in the Olympic tournament. At the World Wrestling Championships 2017 (class up to 65 kg) and the European Wrestling Championships 2017 and 2018 (class up to 70 kg) he won silver medals.
