Leonid Basan

Leonid Basan (born June 11, 1985 in Odessa ) is a Ukrainian or Bulgarian wrestler . In 2011 he was runner-up in the European free style in lightweight .

Career

Bashan started wrestling in 1996 and was trained by Nikolai Stoyanov in Ukraine. He starts exclusively in free style and weighs approx. 70 kg with a height of 1.68 meters, whereby he trains into the lightweight (up to 66 kg body weight) for the competitions. He started for Ukraine until 2009 .

At the end of 2009, Basan went to Bulgaria and was naturalized there in February 2011. In Bulgaria he starts for Chernomorskyj Sokol Warna and is trained by Simeon Schterew . From the 2010/11 season he will start in the German Bundesliga for KSV 05 Aalen , but could not yet be used this season because only one “third country” team is allowed to start in a Bundesliga team and KSV Aalen this place with one occupied another wrestler. After his naturalization in Bulgaria, which made him EU citizen, nothing stands in the way of his start for KSV 05 Aalen. He is a student, but makes a living from wrestling.

Basan was used by Ukraine as a junior at several international championships. At the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Bratislava in 2000, in Izmir in 2001 and in Vilnius in 2002, he was not able to place in the front field in various weight classes. At the Junior World Championships 2005 (Juniors) in Vilnius, however, he won a world championship bronze medal in the lightweight . He also won a bronze medal in 2006 at the student world championship in Ulan Bator, again in the lightweight. After that he did not come to any other international assignments in Ukraine.

After moving to Bulgaria, he won the Bulgarian championship title in 2010 and 2001 and the lightweight competition in 2011 at the renowned Dan Kolew tournament in Burgas . He was also able to convince at the EM in Dortmund . There he defeated Boban Boskov from Serbia , Adam Batirow from Russia and Ali Schabanew from Belarus . In the final battle he was defeated by Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan and became vice-European lightweight champion.
