Saba Arash Javad Bolaghi (born April 22, 1989 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German wrestler . He won a bronze medal in free style in lightweight at the Junior World Championships in 2009 and at the European Championships in 2011 . In 2011 he was voted Germany's wrestler of the year .

Career

Saba Bolaghi is the son of Ahmed Bolaghi, an Iranian who fled Iran to Germany in 1979 . He started wrestling at KSV Neu-Isenburg in 1996 at the age of seven , with his father being his first coach. In the course of his development he moved to ASV Griesheim and, at the age of 18, to RWG Mömbris / Königshofen , a Bundesliga club. Other coaches, to whom he owes a lot, were and are Gerhard Weisenberger and Alexander Leipold . After graduating from high school, Saba Bolaghi began studying sports science and education.

The sporting career of Saba Bolaghi, who only wrestles in free style, only really got going after he switched to RWG Mömbris-Königshofen. In 2008 he became German junior lightweight champion and in the same year took second place in the senior class behind Felix Menzel from 1. Luckenwalder SC . In 2009 he was again German junior champion, he was not at the start in the seniors this year. In 2010 he was runner-up in the senior class behind Felix Menzel and in 2011 he was the first German lightweight champion ahead of Martin Daum from KSV Seeheim and Samet Dülger from KSK Konkordia Neuss .

The international wrestling career of Saba Bolaghi also began in 2008, where he still had to be content with middle places. At the Junior European Championship 2008 (Juniors) in Košice he came after a defeat against Ewgeni Nedealco from Moldova on the 12th place and at the Junior World Championship 2008 in Istanbul he finished after a victory over Abdo Omar from Egypt and a defeat against Kim Jun-chul from South Korea took 16th place. In 2009 he improved to 7th place in the lightweight European championship (Juniors) in Tbilisi . He won over Balint Molnar from Hungary and Khachatrjan from Armenia , while he lost to Mohamed Demir from Turkey .

His first big success on the international wrestling mat came in 2009 at the Junior World Championship (Juniors) in Ankara . In the lightweight he came there to victories over Antoine Bonin, France , Ewgeni Nedealco, Robert Olle from Slovakia and Anton Afanasjew from Belarus , whom he defeated in the battle for the world championship bronze medal. Before that he had lost in the semifinals against Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan . The German wrestling association used Saba Bolaghi in 2009 at the senior world championships in Herning / Denmark . There he won over the Chinese Chengde Shan, but then retired from Turkey after a defeat against Mohamed Ilkkam and took 17th place.

In 2010 he competed at the European Championships in Baku . He lost there in his first fight against Vladimir Gostjan from Moldova after a hard fight with 1: 2 rounds with 5: 8 points. Because of this close result he reached 9th place in Baku. Well prepared, he started as the newly crowned German champion at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund . There he defeated Manuel Ortiz Franco from Spain , Adam Sobieraj from Poland and Koba Kaskaladze from Georgia , before losing to Jabrail Hasanow in the semifinals. In the fight for the European Championship bronze medal, he finally defeated the experienced Gergő Wöller from Hungary.

In 2013 he announced that he would take part in mixed martial arts (MMA) fights in the future . He is part of the MMA Spirit coaching team from Frankfurt am Main . Bolaghi still wants to compete in the wrestling Bundesliga for RWG Mömbris / Königshofen.
