German MMA Championship ( GMC ) is a German mixed martial arts organization. In 2013, 2014 and 2015, the GMC 4, GMC 5 and GMC 7 events received the GnP Award for the best national event, and in 2013 and 2015 they also received the national best organizer of the year. In addition, GMC is the springboard for many German fighters to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the world's largest mixed martial arts organization.
history
The first event, "GMC1 The Beginning", of the German MMA Championship took place on May 29, 2010 in the Ruhrstadt Arena in Herne. Main bout winner Carlos Eduardo Rocha was signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship shortly after the bout . GMC 1 was held in a boxing ring.
In the same year, the second event, "GMC2 Continued", took place on October 9, 2010 at the same location and offered the first two title fights in GMC history, as well as a specially developed octagonal ring. In the welterweight title fight Christian Eckerlin won against the current Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Piotr Hallman. In the light heavyweight division, the later Bellator Fighting Championships fighter Jonas Billstein was able to prevail against Matthias Schuck via TKO.
After a break of almost three years, GMC returned with the event "GMC 3 Cage Time" on February 16, 2013 in the Ruhrstadt Arena in Herne and fought for the first time in an octagon. The main fight of the evening, the title fight in the heavyweight division, was carried out by Andreas Kraniotakes and Björn Schmiedberg , who are known throughout Europe , and none of the fighters could prevail even after 5 rounds.
With “GMC 4 Next Level”, the German MMA Championship set new standards for German mixed martial arts events on July 6, 2013 in the Eis Arena Herne . The fights were fought in an octagon according to the original Ultimate Fighting Championship dimensions and the fighter walk-in was supported by fog and pyrotechnics. The fights were broadcast live in the cabins for all fighters.
On September 13, 2014, the German MMA Championship changed location for the first time and hosted “GMC 5” in the Europahalle Castrop-Rauxel.
Since then, GMC has usually hosted two events per year.
regulate
With the “Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts”, the German MMA Championship uses the same set of rules as the Ultimate Fighting Championship .
Round
The fights go over 3 rounds of 5 minutes each with a ring break of 1 minute each. Title fights go over 5 rounds of 5 minutes each, also with a 1-minute ring break after each round.
Weight classes
The Unified Rules used by GMC know nine different weight classes .
- Flyweight: 125 and less lb (57 and less kg)
- Bantamweight: 126 to 135 lb (57 to 61 kg)
- Featherweight: 136 to 145 lb (61 to 66 kg)
- Lightweight: 145 to 155 lb (67 to 71 kg)
- Welterweight: 155 to 170 lb (71 to 78 kg)
- Middleweight: 170 to 185 lb (78 to 85 kg)

Cage
The fighting area at GMC has the shape of an octagon ( octagon ) with a diameter of 9.75 m. Instead of ring ropes, the fighting area is limited by a chain link fence . The fence is designed to protect the fighters from falling off the fighting area. In addition, it opens up further tactical possibilities, as you can lean on it (in clinch and ground combat) - but the fighters are not allowed to hold on to it.
