The Ofis publik ar Brezhoneg (French Office public de la langue bretonne , dt. Office of the Breton Language ) is an organization founded on May 1, 1999 , whose main goal is the preservation of the Breton language and culture.

task

One of the tasks of this organization is to observe the development of the Breton language sociolinguistically and geographically - (Arsellva ar brezhoneg - Observatory of the Breton language). The organization is also the sponsor of TermBret , i. That means that it publishes dictionaries , books and maps in Breton and new terminology. A well-known campaign by this organization is the Ya d'ar brezhoneg charter .

The Breton

The organization strives to promote the Breton language not only among children and young people in various school facilities , but also to develop the language in the parents' generation with courses. In the years from 1998 to 1999, around 9,300 adults took part in such courses. The Breton language was also taught through organized correspondence (e.g. via the Internet) or through internships. Not only are courses offered in Brittany , but also 28 courses, 15 of which are in the Paris area alone.

In 2003 the Ofis ar Brezhoneg issued a Breton road map of Brittany (5 departments ).

Financing and organizing

As an independent organization, the organization has an average budget of 1 million euros . The main donors are the Brittany region and the Loire-Atlantique department .
