Johann Jakob Baader (born April 4, 1810 , Gelterkinden ; † March 16, 1879 there ) was a Swiss national councilor and doctor.

Life

Johann Jakob Baader was the son of Samuel Baader. He took Latin lessons from various pastors. He completed his medical studies in Basel, Freiburg im Breisgau, Heidelberg and Zurich, which he completed in 1834. In Freiburg he became a member of the Corps Helvetia in 1829, in Heidelberg he joined the Corps Helvetia there in 1831. In 1840 he married Elisabeth Rudin von Bennwil. His son was the doctor and benefactor Arnold Baader . A year later he became a district doctor.

politics

Between 1836 and 1857 and between 1866 and 1872 he represented Gelterkinden in the Basel district administrator . At the same time he was a liberal national councilor from 1866 to 1869. In the upper part of the canton he participated in the development of the new state. He was an influential representative of what was then the most important party, the party of order. He was also president of the medical council and founder of the reading club and the girls' secondary school in Gelterkinden. He was responsible for the construction of the penal institution and the canton hospital. In 1865 he was a co-founder of the Swiss Medical Society. Between 1873 and 1878 he was a member of the board of directors of the Basellandschaftliche Hypothekenbank and at the same time worked as a battalion doctor.
