Gelterkinden ( Swiss German : Gältchinde [ ˈgæltərˌχɪndə ]) is a municipality in the district of Sissach in the Swiss canton of Basel-Landschaft .
geography
Gelterkinden is at 404 m above sea level. M. in the Upper Basel area in the Ergolztal and is embedded between heavily wooded hills.
history
According to soil finds, the Gelterkinden area was continuously inhabited from the early Stone Age to the Middle Ages . A church dedicated to the Apostle Peter rose above the village from the late early Middle Ages . At the foot of the church hill was the Hennenbühlhof, which belonged to the Counts of Frohburg and was lent to the Lords of Gelterkinden. Later it fell to the Counts of Thierstein , who sold it to the Teutonic Order House in Beuggen in 1399 with the church set . The monastery of St. Alban , the monastery of St. Leonhard, the cathedral chapter and various secular lords also owned other goods in Gelterkinden . In 1461, the city of Basel acquired Gelterkinden along with the Farnsburg rule . The Farnsburg from where Basler bailiffs more than 300 years, the official ruled, was set on fire by revolutionaries 1798th During the turmoil of the cantons in 1832/33, Gelterkinden remained loyal to the city and requested Basel troops to protect him. Thereupon country workers stormed the community ( Gelterkindersturm of April 1832) and chased away the people of Basel. So Gelterkinden came to the newly founded canton of Basel-Landschaft . In 1864 Gelterkinden recorded 290 trimmings chairs and two silk ribbon factories . Since the Hauenstein line of the Centralbahn Gelterkinden was on the left, the Sissach-Gelterkinden-Bahn (SGB) tram ran between Sissach and the town from 1891 to 1916 . The opening of the Hauenstein base line in 1916 brought the village further upswing.
The place name is first attested in 1102 or 1103 as Gelterkingen . Its meaning is "at the courts of the people of Gelterich". The original Ortsnamensuffix -ingen was by later writers hyper correctly to indene deformed into a false analogy to the firm linguistic reproduction of the (former) dialect ng in words like Ching, would begin as child find .
coat of arms
The coat of arms is divided vertically into three parts in the colors blue, white (silver) and red. This is the coat of arms of the Froburg ministral family of the Lords of Gelterich.
politics
Local politics knows the two groups of civil association Gelterkinden (BZG) and SP Gelterkinden. In addition to members of these groups, non-party candidates often fight for office at the community level.
The BZG is an association of middle-class residents. Many members belong either to the FDP Gelterkinden or the SVP Gelterkinden and the surrounding area.
Sports
Various sports clubs are based in Gelterkinden, including FC Gelterkinden , which plays regionally in the 2nd division.
The gymnastics group of the TV Gelterkindens, which can call itself multiple Swiss champions in the discipline of large field gymnastics, has probably contributed to the greatest successes in the history of sports . The last time the group, led by Franco Polsini, won the title in September 2014 at the Swiss Championships in club gymnastics in Lyss .
The group was brought into being by Kurt “Kuri” Wirz around 1983. He shaped the development from gymnastics as a “body school” to choreographies with wit and his own style and led the group for a good 20 years.
The Schützengesellschaft, which is composed of the sections pistol at 50 meters and rifle at 300 meters, is still a large club. The association was founded in 1836.
Also known is the Gelterkinden volleyball club, which played National League A for several years.
economy
Since Gelterkinden has a relatively small number of industrial and commercial jobs, many residents go out to work.
traffic
The location on the Hauenstein route ensures good connections to the canton capital Liestal as well as to Basel and Olten (Interregio and S3). The community is also the starting point for the post bus lines to Rheinfelden , Wegenstetten , Oltingen and Zeglingen as well as the bus route to Sissach . The Sissach motorway connection to the A2 is 5 km away through the A22 Chienberg tunnel .
Culture
Gelterkinden was mentioned in the title Düsseldorf by the American songwriter Regina Spektor . The text contains the lines: “In Gelterkinden I forgot to frown / then remembered again” and “In Gelterkinden I remembered how to laugh / and I never ever forgot it again”. The song appeared as the B-side of the single CD On the Radio and in Europe as the fourth track on the bonus CD for the album Begin to Hope .
Gelterkinden is also mentioned in the song Hans Zbinde on the album Roots 44 by the Swiss rap group TAFS . The song tells a short story from the life of "Hans Zbinde us Galterchinde".
