Upper Basel area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oberbaselbiet is a somewhat imprecise name for the eastern, larger part of the canton of Basel-Landschaft .

To 1798 today formed districts Liestal , Waldenburg and Sissach and the municipalities Muttenz and Birsfelden today's district Arlesheim one subjects Country of federal town Basel . They were also known as the Basel “landscape”.

“Oberbaselbiet” is often used today to mean the three districts mentioned, Liestal, Waldenburg and Sissach. Sometimes, however, the entire historical subject country - including the communities of Muttenz and Birsfelden - is counted as part of the Upper Basel area. This area also differs linguistically (including Chind [χɪnd] , not like in the city of Kind [kʰɪnd] ) and denominationally (as traditionally reformed in the city) from the other regions of the Basel area, the traditionally Catholic regions of Lower Basel and Laufental .

According to another subdivision, the region around Liestal (above all the valley floor from the Hulftenschanz to Sissach with the towns of Frenkendorf , Füllinsdorf , Liestal , Lausen , Itingen and Sissach together with Bubendorf ) or, in summary, the Liestal district as the "middle Basel area". Everything that lies above or behind it - especially the districts of Sissach and Waldenburg - then forms the upper Basel area.
