Martin Jänicke

Martin Jänicke (born August 15, 1937 in Buckow ) is a German political scientist specializing in environmental policy .

It was in 1969 when Otto Stammer at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis totalitarian studies on the concept of sovereignty to Dr. phil. PhD. He then became Arnulf Baring's assistant . In 1970 the habilitation followed . From 1971 to 2002 he was Professor of Comparative Analysis in the Political Science Department of the Free University of Berlin . Between 1986 and 2007 he headed the research center for environmental policy there . Jänicke set significant impulses in environmental policy and is considered to be the inventor of the term ecological modernization , which is now widely used internationally.

Jänicke was an advisor to the Federal Chancellery and from 1981 to 1983 a member of the Berlin House of Representatives for the Alternative List . From 1999 to 2007 Jänicke was a member of the Federal Government's Advisory Council for Environmental Issues and was temporarily deputy chairman.
