Ormalingen , in the Swiss German local dialect Ormalinge [ˈormɑˌlɪŋə] , is a political municipality in the district of Sissach in the Swiss canton of Basel-Landschaft .
geography
Ormalingen is 423 m above sea level. M. in Ergolztal, east of Gelterkinden. Its neighboring communities are Buus , Rickenbach BL , Gelterkinden , Tecknau , Wenslingen , Rothenfluh and Hemmiken .
The municipal area is 694 ha , of which 52% is agricultural use, 38% is forest and 10% is settlements.
history
Ormalingen was settled early on, so a Roman villa and rich early medieval graves were found. The settlement was first mentioned as Normandy in 1286 . The place name is derived from the Old High German personal name Nordeman, Nordmann .
In the Middle Ages, the Counts of Frohburg , Homburg and Thierstein and the Barons of Falkenstein owned this village one after the other . In 1461 Ormalingen came to the city of Basel with the rule of Thierstein-Farnsburg .
