Location of the municipality | |
Buckten ( Swiss German : Buckte ) is a municipality in the district of Sissach in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland .
geography

Buckten lies between two valley slopes at the foot of the Hauenstein , in the Homburgertal on the so-called Hauenstein line .
The neighboring communities include (clockwise from the north) Rümlingen , Häfelfingen , Läufelfingen , Känerkinden and Wittinsburg .
coat of arms
Buckten's coat of arms was officially confirmed by the local council in 1944. It is divided into two halves by a horizontal line. The upper half shows a golden post horn on a black background, the lower half a black wagon wheel on a golden background. The symbols remind of the former importance of Buckten as a passport at the foot of the Hauenstein. Here, additional horses were harnessed to the wagon to cross the pass and the road toll was collected.
history
Archaeological finds indicate that the area had already been settled in pre-Alemannic times.
Buckten was first mentioned in a document in 1266 as a butuchon . The name developed from Butkon (1323) via Buttikon to Butken (1417). The place name is mentioned for the first time in a document as a butuchon in a sales contract dated July 18, 1266. It is assumed that the place name can be traced back to the first settler. In 1400 Buckten came under the rule of the city of Basel .
