history

Historical aerial photo by Werner Friedli (1958)

The first written mention of Hemmiken dates from 1255 as Enninchon . In the late Middle Ages the village belonged to the Thierstein-Farnsburg rule, from 1461 it belonged to the city of Basel . During the Swabian War and the Thirty Years' War it was burned several times because of its proximity to the then Austrian Fricktal . Ornate door supports can be seen on older houses from the flourishing stone carving in the 18th and 19th centuries.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows an upright and two crossed stone carving tools in blue on a gold background. It was created in 1945.
